We’re starting off our program year with a program on decorative box making that will be presented by longtime WPW member Robert Bishop. As many of you know, one of Robert’s specialties is making boxes, and he’ll be well into the swing of things at our September meeting having just completed his showing at A Fair In The Park the previous weekend.

Robert began designing, creating, and working in wood in 2006 mainly as a way to decompress from the stress of working in the corporate business world. He has a BFA in Communications-Graphics and initially, his focus was on 2D graphic design. That training has transferred quite nicely to his woodworking endeavors.

His presentation on box making will cover design, wood selection, the build process and he will even share some of his tips and techniques. He will also have on hand some examples of his work (perhaps even some in-process pieces so that we can see intermediate steps…these might be the pieces not completed in time for A Fair In The Park!), as well as jigs that he has created to use in the manufacturing of many of his designs.

Please plan on joining us as we begin the new program year and perhaps find that inspiration to try your hand at making that long-promised box for someone special. It’s never too early to start planning on a Christmas or Hannukah present…
