Meeting Agenda

Meeting Date: November 14, 2026

  • Please enter the shop through the man door off the alley at the rear of the building. The “831” street address is posted on the door. All of the doors on the Broadway side of the building are kept locked.
  • 8:30 – 9:15 am: Set up A/V equipment and refreshments for the meeting.
  • 9:15 am: Doors open for coffee and donuts; come socialize with your fellow woodworkers. We now have two Keurig coffee makers and K-Cup pods in medium-roast coffee, tea, and hot chocolate (sorry if you look forward to the over-percolated, burnt, two-hour-old coffee from our old 100-cup coffee pot!). If you have your own favorite K-Cup, please feel free to bring it with you for your own custom brew.
  • 10:00 am: Meeting starts
  • On-street parking meters (coins only, two hour limit) are enforced on Broadway in the block directly in front of Back Channel School of Woodworking. Otherwise, if you don’t see a parking meter, it’s free. There is also a free, large, paved and lighted parking lot behind the shop.  You may park in numbered spots, but please don’t park in spots marked “Reserved.”

While at the IWF (International Woodworking Fair) Show in Atlanta earlier this year, I had the good fortune to speak with Bob Behnke from Franklin International (the maker of Titebond adhesives) about the possibility of doing a presentation for the WPW on “everything adhesives/gluing,” at least according to Franklin. Bob graciously agreed to look at his calendar and two emails later we were scheduled as a part of his “road show!” As Bob asks in the information below, please come prepared with any questions you might have about adhesives and gluing for this rare opportunity to talk to an industry professional about a subject of immense importance to us as woodworkers. Bob has provided the information below for your review.

– Bill James

Biography:

Bob Behnke is Franklin International’s Technical Service Manager for the Construction Division handling all technical aspects of the Titebond Branded product line of wood glues, construction adhesives, wood flooring adhesives and sealants. At Franklin, Bob manages a group tasked with handling all calls to the company’s 800 number along with technicians tasked with testing of competitive products and new substrates. Bob has worked for over 30 years in the adhesives and sealants industry with experience in the development of emulsion polymers, scale up from bench to production of a range of adhesive technologies, and development of breathable technology for organic and inorganic fabrics.

Class Description:

The class will cover the five steps for successful gluing. From dry assembly to waiting for the glue to dry. Wood glues can affect the wood as it is being assembled, and being prepared in advance will eliminate costly joint failures and frustrating disassembly. The discussion will focus on the steps needed to use wood glues with ease, what to watch out for when the glue hits the wood, and why failures occur. We will also cover some frequently asked questions and why there are so many different wood glues. Bring your gluing questions as this is a discussion, not just a presentation.
