The April 2017 meeting program on Windsor Chair, Craig Smith will present. Please join us for our April meeting where the program will be presented by local Windsor chair maker and teacher, Craig Smith.
Craig is excited by the time-tested engineering that goes into the centuries-old Windsor design and will share some of the whys and wherefores of material selection, working techniques, and assembly practices. The program will feature examples of specialized chair making tools, selected chair parts in progress, and completed but unpainted chairs. He will also discuss the merits of traditional tools and techniques versus the use of modern machines and where he takes advantage of each. Mixed in with these topics, Craig will share his experiences with a few of the “names” in Windsor chair making, sources and resources, and possibly (hopefully) a bit of humor.
In summary, after this program, attendees should have an enhanced understanding of what goes into making a Windsor chair and possibly even an interest in giving one a try themselves.
